902 crud in /system/state

The pocketbook 912 and probably others store information about where you were up to in /system/state.
There is an entry for every book/file.
If you delete the file, the entry in /system/state does not go away.
If you have a turnover of files, this is irritating. If you like to read news on the device, you have a serious turnover and very quickly, dozens of these dead, unloved and unwanted files.
I just asked my pocketbook to update its library information. This does not clean up these files.
Is there anything I have missed or is this just something was has to clean up by hand and live with ?

902 qt web browser downloads

This may well be my fault, but I would be grateful for advice.
A pocketbook 912 with 2.1.2 firmware.
In the standard, qt web browser, under Edit->preferences, there is an item "save downloads to".
There is a box there, but it will not take focus for the cursor. I cannot type into it.
Maybe not coincidentally, I cannot download files in the browser. They show up in downloads, but literally nothing happens if I click on "open".

Could somebody tell me,
* does downloading work for you ? Anything.. Just find a small pdf file for example
* what directory do downloaded files end up in ?

Why am I blaming myself ? I may well have deleted a directory the browser wants to use. I tend to clean up mercilessly and occasionally regret it.

Thanks if you could tell me if everything works for you.

Replacement for the PB302?

I have had and still use a PB302 since it first came out. It is still going strong and I use it every day. Great machine. It is getting old though, and I am guessing the battery is going to give out sooner or later. So I am looking around for a replacement - and since PB has been such a great purchase (although very expensive), I think going with the latest PB model is the first choice.

I still want to stay with eInk (as I use it camping a lot), and I like the 6" size. And I also want a touch screen. I never use online stuff (all books are installed via Calibre), so I do not need Wifi or 3G.

I have tried to find a good PB website, but all I can find are russian or german. Any recommendations for the best PB model?

Where can I buy pocketbook from the USA?

I'm interested in the new Pocketbook Touch Lux and was wondering if there was an online store I could buy it from and have it shipped to the USA?

Can I actually order from www.pocketbook-int.com/us? I don't see an obvious way to do that unless it's phone orders only.

First impressions PocketBook Touch 2 Lux 623

Dear fellow Mobileraders.

I have finally received the front lit PocketBook touch 623.
I do not know how to call it, because the PocketBook company itself uses different names, such as PocketBook Touch 2, PocketBook Touch Lux, PocketBook 623. But they are all the same device (as long they do not have "color" in the name.

From outside the device is identical to the older model PocketBook Touch 622.
The display is HD and is front-lit.
The firmware 4.1 is clearly based on previous models. It seems to be better adapted to touch screen.

The front-light is not as nice as on my PaperWhite. There is very narrow uneven brighter area at the upper edge of the screen and there is shadow at the bottom. The shadow at the bottom reaches to the half of the status line in the book.
I personally perceive the light to be worse than on PaperWhite and better than on Nook.

Just checking a couple of things about the 912

I've done a quick search, but found no joy (instead only a couple of similar bewilderments and complaints, I think one of them from me).

I'm hoping I'm missing something, and/or someone has found a way around these annoyances and just forgot to share the answers. :)

First, the theme / appearance - is there no way to customise this at all? With my vanilla 360 I saw an abundance of themes, including making Recently Read take up the bulk of the page. But with the 912 it seems I'm stuck with the three bundled, none of which provide a longer 'Recently read' section in portrait layout. I don't need a russian dictionary, two clocks, calendar, or sudoko widget, and I don't need quick (or any) access to games, music, photos or notes. But I do usually flick between a dozen or so books, and while I could conceivably use the Favourites option to get slightly closer to this, it's a massive amount of management overhead for the human (ie. me). Yes, I know I can flip to landscape mode, but then I only see the first few characters of each title, but thoughtfully they've preserved several centimetres of white space margins and padding on the Music and Photos menu. {sigh}

Second, I was hoping the last firmware update, which I finally did today (thanks for replacing my carefully considered boot & power-off images with an advert for Obereey!) would solve this one -- some widget or configuration/key-shortcut to quickly change the user profile? It's such a handy feature (mostly so our respective Favourites aren't constantly fiddled with, including where we're up to in the same book) but it's currently massively unwieldy - Configuration | User Profiles | {username} | Activate | Back & Back or Home. And there's no way of identifying the current profile except by going through the same arduous process.

Themes for PocketBook Touch Lux 623

Hello,

here I'd like to start a thread about making themes for the PocketBook Touch Lux 623.

Here are my instructions:

  1. At first you need the original theme (see attachment). If you ask how I get it: If you have some linux knowledge you can write a script, save it to the applications directory of your PocketBook an execute it. So you can copy any file to a visible directory.
  2. Now you need an application to split the theme into its configuration file and graphics:
    http://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=105
  3. Now you are able to modify config file and graphics. The graphics must be bmp and with 4bit color map. A special color is "0x808040" because it is rendered transparent.
  4. Finally you have to "compile" these files to a new pbt. To do this you need pbres. It is a part of the PocketBook SDK:
    http://pocketbook-free.sourceforge.net/en/sdk.shtml
If you are interested in my themes please visit http://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=214445

E-ink reader as external display

$

Dear all,
Maybe this is just another project of making an e-reader external display, but I didn't find any similar solution.
The objectives of the project are:
- The device is placed in the factory at the entrance to one of departments.
- The device is displaying the list of logged in employees so anybody who visits the department can see who is "on duty".
- Upon evacuation, the rescue supervisor grabs the device so the rescue team has got a list of employees which were inside before the alarm.
- The display is refreshing - let's say once a minute - when put into place and freezes when grabbed.
- Minimum modification of reader's software and maximum reliability working 24/7/365.

Preliminarly I thought about two options:
1. Connect the reader by WiFi to the company network and prepare the web page in company intranet. Run the page on reader's web browser.
Question: If I set i.e. <meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="60" /> will it work on Pocketbook's browser?
2. Connet the reader to the PC which will upload once a minute the file with the content to display (text, html, bmp, whatever). This makes the reader independent from WiFi network operation and sure the content would freeze when disconnected.
Question: Is there a program for Pocketbook to display any content which will refresh it at desired time interval or when the content is overwritten?

I don't feel convenient to write any software by myself, I did never program in Linux. It is possible to purchase the program from european company which can issue vat invoice.

Best regards.

903 SDK is fine. - VM-Image would be great for developping

Hello,

is there anything like an VM-Image to load in virtual box etc to develop new applikations.

I would love something where I only have to start the VM, edit the source, push the make-button and the app-file is created.

Hello! I want to buy a mini-USB keyboard ( amzn.to/12jNgSq ) for my Pocketbook IQ701, but I am not sure will it work with the reader? Does the reader support external keyboards or it works only with on-screen one? Thank you!

Hi,

Is it possible to change the user agent of the PB 622 web browser? Would this require rebuild or can it be changed on the fly (somewhere in the config or etc.)

Thanks

PocketBook 623 system folder nowhere to be found

Hi,
Can anyone help?

I wanted to install dictionaries in my PocketBook 603 system folder, but it is nowhere to be seen. Even opening hidden folders, as recommended doesn't make it appear and when I tried to create a new one I was told 'system' folder already exists, of course, but where?

I've never come across this problem anywhere before, and indeed, my old PocketBook 903 had no similar problems.

Hope someone can help..........................

Cheers

Sony PRS-505 "upgrade", need 9+ inches screen.

$

Hello,

I have this PRS-505 which I run the notably famous custom firmware on, and I really like it, it's been my companion for many years and it's really a great reader, in my humble opinion.

The issue is not the reader, it's my eyes, which are not as good as they used to, this being said, the screen is too small, and magnifying the text is sometimes awkward, I would really prefer a larger reader, so I could maintain the full page size and this way, not interfer with the reading flow (lots of what I read are technical documents which are not proper to resizing).

As such, there's a few options available, Onyx/Icarus, Ectaco, or wait.

I need something 9+ inches, and thin, good build, with a very long battery life (I spend a lot of time in power-less places), I don't really think color would give me anything (I don't have color documents), and my budget is $500. I read mostly PDFs, but not exclusively, Wifi is a big plus, especially if it can be disabled to save battery life, audio capabilities (text-to-speed, and playing audiobooks/mp3) would be very useful, and finally, using large memory cards (32GB) would be fantastic. I have read that the Onyx has many "firmware" issues, which the PRS-505, along with the custom firmware doesn't have much of.

I would really like a screen of as high quality as the PRS-505 itself, I don't want to give up this quality, so if I have to get a color one to reach this quality, then so be it; but if not, please let me know which would work best for me.

360 Plus Any way to hack page layout?

After a failure of part of my screen on my PB360+, the bottom part (about two rows) are not visible any more. I was looking for a way to limit the text of my ebooks to margins, beyond those provided by the original software. as to allow me to read as if i had a smaller screen.

This ofcourse is just a "bandaid" until I can aford a new reader.

any advice is welcome

[623] Touch Lux : before buying and accessories

Hi everybody!

I asked the same questions yesterday in the french section, and still no answers.
I hope here there will be some people who knows.

- do I really need the charger ? Can't I use the USB cable to charge it by my computer ?
- is the "customer service" of Pocketbook good ? (sorry, not sure of the term :/ )
- what are the negative aspects of this ereader ?
- do I need a screen protector ?
- the official covers are expensive. Are they of good quality ? Do you know others good and cheap ?
- and finally, I hesitate about the color : grey or black ? Do anyone have a grey touch lux, and how is it ?

Sorry for my english!

Setting margins to none in Adobe viewer ?

$

Hi everyone,

I'm happy with my pb622 for almost a year now, but one thing keeps bugging me.

Adobe viewer has 4 options for margins width in epubs - default/small/med/large - most of my ebooks had basically no margins with default options.

Sadly some of them have like ~1,5cm margins default, and changing to small changes nothing (seems like default=small) and can only be made larger.

Is there any way to make the margins disappear in epubs in Adobe viewer without playing around with apps like calibre ?

If not, I would email PocketBook with my suggestion but I have no idea if they can do anything with Adobe branded app.
