The surpport engineer told me the web browser not encoding Chinese chartacter.

Can someone help me ?

Pocketbook Ultra 650 - default font size

Hi,
I would like to change the default font and font size when I open a new book but I don't find the way to achieve that:
- no direct menu on the reader
- the different modification I tried in fbreader.cfg / global.cfg failed (no change)

Since the begining, each new book I open has 36pt as font size, for me it's pretty huge and not comfortable to read...

Do you know any way to do that ?

[622] OpenConfig segfaults

I've got an app and it segfaults on OpenConfig call when run on the reader (622 with 4.4 FW). In emulator everything works as expected. As well as on 623 with 4.2 FW.

The segfault provides me with no error message except "Segmentation fault". How could I debug it better? I use the PBSDK 1.1.0 on virtualized Ubuntu for the development.

PocketBook Basic 2 Screen Advice

Hi,

I hope that some of you experienced pocketbook users can help me.

I'm a student studying a bachelors degree which consists of a lot of reading. I find that I get a lot of eye strain from reading LCD tablet screens such as my iPad. Unfortunately I have found that reading from a kindle (generations 2 and 3) make me very dizzy. I know this is peculiar as I have searched the internet for hours about this issue but have found only a few people who experience the same thing. I recently discovered that if I put a matte screen protector on my ipad I get the same dizziness when using the iPad. So I have been left with two conclusions:

1) Reading from devices with Plastic screens/screen covers make me dizzy

2) Reading from devices with Matte/rough screen finishes make me dizzy.

Conclusion one seems to make the most sense to me but I couldn't find an ereader from kindle, sony, kobo or nook which had a glass screen. I then read the pocketbook website and it stated that the PocketBook Basic 2 had a glass screen so I have ordered one. Now I am not sure weather it was referring to the substrate that the e-ink is placed on, or the transparent front/cover of the ereader. So I have two questions:

1) Can somebody please tell me if the PocketReader Basic 2 does indeed have a glass screen front

2) Does anybody know of any other ereaders that have glass screen fronts.

Calibre doesn't recognize my device with 626 FW

Hi,

I've just bought an e-reader called Calibro Touch Lux, which has exact same hardware as PocketBook 626, but a slightly specified firmware by its local distributor in Turkey. And there's Calibro logo on the case, instead of PocketBook.

Anyway, the brand is new in Turkey. Distributor has not published the firmware. But my fingers got itchy and I've set the original fw from PocketBook's official site by curiousity.

And it worked well, as I predicted. No errors on device, Win7 recognizes it and I can access files, but Calibre doesn't recognize at all.

On previous fw, Calibre saw the device as Android. That was OK, but now it's gone completely. I guess, there's a problem with the Vendor ID etc.

How can I fix this? Calibre debug log is as:

Pocketbook has my $242, but they won't ship my InkPad

Has anyone had trouble buying from Pocketbook France?

I ordered an Inkpad in the beginning of September from Pocketbook's French subsidiary. After numerous delays, it was supposed to have shipped last week. So far as I can tell, it has not.

I would like to frame that sentence in more definite terms but unfortunately all I know now is that it hasn't shipped, and that the French sub is no longer responding to my emails.

I figure at this point I should kiss the $242 goodbye, and since I won't be getting anything else out of this I decided to at least post a warning to everyone else.

P.S. Does anyone have a contact email for Pocketbook France? Hopefully, one where they will actually respond?

hi, i've searched but cant really find any sellers in the UK are my only options importation? just checking with any UK owners in case i'm missing something.

Also when searching for the UK site on pocketbook (and finding there wasn't one) Ukraine has two sites, is that a recent thing or has there always been two sites for that country? just curious as to whether whats going on there has had a bearing.

any help much appreciated.

SurfPad 3 (7") loading very slow

Hiya,

my Surfpad 3/ 7" is loading very slow now. 5% takes several hours!
I already replaced the basic USB cable, no help.

No matter if I load via the included power adapter, or from a PC. Seems it "freezes" sometimes when loading, and actually stopped loading - woken up from standby it says "loading at 40%" for instance, when unlocked it's actually 23% ...

Usually it loaded in about 3 - 4h from close to zero to full.

Anybody has an idea what is wrong here? What shall I do (Germany)?

PS: Is there any information when the SurfPads 4 will hit the market?

Bluetooth and PB912

Hello I tried to use the bluetooth with PB912 for transferring files from my smartphone to PB912. But a curious thing happens: the PB912 create a folder "Received" and if I browse to the folder I do not see any files. Instead, if I connect via USB to my PC and surf the PB912 in the previous folder I see all the files I downloaded through Bluetooth. Can anyone help me to solve this problem. Thanks

Replacement reading apps for Pocketbook

I've just completed a survey of the Pocketbook InkPad's support for ebook formats and found them lacking.

Can someone point me at better reading options? Is there a single repository site where I can download them?

I found CoolReader, but the app itself was on a Russian site behind a registration wall. What else is out there?

Pocketbook 623 dropbbox problem

Hi,
I'm using a Pocketbook 623 with the latest software 4.4.614. The dropbox feature is not working: I can login to dropbox via the built-in browser but afterwards I can't see any dirs or files in dropbox, no pocketbook dir is created, and there is no option to sync or logout.

For some reason I don't have the file "libdropbox_client.so". Any ideas what could cause the problem? If somebody could send me their file I could try to copy it to my pocketbook manually.

How to unblock frozen PocketBook Basic New?!

Hello everyone,
I have a PocketBook Basic New (model 613), purchased online 2 yrs ago. Since then, I've updated the firmware to the latest version (4.0 of March 2013, if I don't err). I liked it even though I noticed it was slower than earlier.

Now, yesterday, after a few days of intensive use due to upcoming exams and tests, it froze on the Recent Events screen.
I've tried pressing the Reset button, alone and in combination with other keys (Power button, left/right button, OK button), but the screen is still frozen. Even the direction buttons don't move the pointer which is constantly fixed on the first item of the Recent Events' list. The battery was half-empty, so I thought maybe I should recharge the battery and that will do the trick - nothing!
I also tried to connect the device to the PC but Windows 7 doesn't recognize it.
I suppose this is what is called "hanged up e-reader"? Can someone please help me out?

Firmware v4 versus v5 or why you should NOT upgrade

I would like to share my experience with the new firmware so that the others know what they will get before upgrading.
The Good:
  • The whole user interface looks much better. Compared to the old one it looks modern. They updated the way the main menu and the menus inside applications look.
The Bad:
  • From usability point of view the interface is much worse:
    1. The height of top and bottom status bars was increased quite a bit reducing the space for the text.
    2. Remaining battery life and time is no longer always shown in the bottom bar (huge bottom bar only shows page count). To see this information you have to touch the middle of the screen which is also used to open options menu in applications.
    3. To switch between open applications now requires additional touch/press which significantly increases the time you have to wait until the other application actually opens.
    4. The books are displayed in a carousel view in the main screen and there doesn't seem to be a way to change that. Again, even it kinda looks good but from functional (usability) point it's worse. You can only see three books at a time and quite often swipe gesture which should move the carousel is registered as a click and it starts opening some random book which at least to me is quite annoying because opening and closing of some "heavy" books takes some time.
    5. Some people reported that books from microSD card are not displayed in the carousel/recently viewed books list. So you have to manually search for them in the file manager.
  • Even UI was changed, the core (backend) of the default applications seems to remain pretty much the same or it got some insignificant improvement:
    1. Web browser is still totally useless. It still doesn't render the same pages it didn't render before and it freezes on the same pages it was freezing while using the old firmware. The only change that I saw is that it also now shows some useless (to the normal user) error messages.
    2. PDF reader still freezes when zooming in/out slightly too fast and I haven't noticed any new features.
    3. Haven't noticed any changes in Dropbox, music player and picture viewing apps. I don't use the built-in book store so don't know if there were any changes.
  • The only third party application which is currently compatible with v5 is rkomar's comic viewer (pbimageviewer). All the others no longer work. Also, because the main status bar was moved from bottom to top, fullscreen view in rkomar's app no longer works correctly.
  • They did not provide SDK (software development kit) for the new version. Third party applications can not link with the new library versions present in the new v5 firmware. The only option is to statically link with old library versions and to include the old libraries in the application which significantly increases the size of the app and developers can not use features present in updated libs.

Conclusion: the new version doesn't add much value but mostly makes everything pretty much worse.

Hi, I want chose a certificates when I connect to EDUroam in my university, but I don't know, to what place put a certificates or what changes do in a system files. I find file network.cfg in system\config\ but I don't know what changes make in it. I try something like name of certificates to write in usercert= line, but it didn't work.:help:

does pocketbook touch lux show folders

Hi all,

I'm from the older generation (bebook one, pocket 302) and I tried to kobo glo. But that did't show the folders on my (micro)sd-card, only the books (without series information).
I always managed by books by putting them (a few thousand) on the card alphabetically and then by author and that's how I want to look at my books and choose which one to read. I don't want a bookshelf.
Can anybody tell my if the pocketbook touch lux shows folders and if not, if there are pocketbooks with e-ink that can do that?
