903 How do I change the reading fonts in PB 912?

$

Hello, have managed to change fonts on the device (menus) using the available fonts, and the size of the font in the reader. But although the font in the menus has changed the reader keep on using the same font, and I can't see any way to change the font in the readers little square menu.

The original font was OK for me, but having lent the 912 to my parents I notice that they don't use it, because when increasing the original font size it's still less readable than smaller print on paper!!! A very bad choice of font then, as readers ought to be perfect for persons with not so good sight. Having been told so by my parents I do notice that the big letters don't get more readable than the small ones.

So how do I change the reading fonts in PB 912?

[PB903] stylus (?) stopped working

hello,

I have older PB 903 model and used original stylus pen to make notes. Today I noticed the reader is not responding to stylus pen. It stopped working, just like that. The reader "responds" with green diode blink when I touch the screen with a pen, but it doesn't have any consequences in any action on the screen.

I'm in the process of finding out a new working pen to see if reader works with it but maybe someone can tell from his/her experience: does it look like something serious and unrepairable? Or maybe just common issue with stylus pen only? Or maybe besides buying new pen there is another method to diagnose the issue further?

thank you,
geos

Pocketbook Touch Lux 2 different hardware versions

Got myself a PocketBook Touch Lux 2 a couple of months ago.
After used a Kobo Glo and an Aura HD before, I think it's an awesome E-reader.
So I bought another one for my wife.

I don't know this is already common knowledge but the two PocketBooks have different hardware. The 'older' one has a far smoother front glass, warmer front light and slightly brighter background when front light is off. The 'newer' one has therefor better contrast when LED front light is used due to a more white/blue-ish colour tone but less contrast when LED light is off.

Tomorrow I will post some pics...

PocketBook 623-Books disappeared from device

Hi,

I have been using my Pocketbook Touch Lux 623 over a year now, and I have encountered a problem. Some of my books are displayed when linked to the PC, but they do not appear on PocketBook. I have tried to reach them via opening Notes, and linking the note to the book, but it gives the warning that "File has been removed or replaced". I had replaced the files before though, but I was still able to access the specific notes through the book itself. I would really appreciate a solution, as this is driving me crazy.

PB Touch Lux: Not able to change font in a previously opened book (stale state?)

Hey,
I loaded a new book onto my Pocketbook Touch Lux and the book had its fonts embedded. As I wanted to be able to change the font I removed the embedded Fonts with calibre. That worked so I was able to change the font in the calibre ebook viewer (also tested with the file on the PBs filesystem).

The thing is that I'm not able to change the font on the reader for this book. I thought there was some stale state hanging around which saved the font settings, last visited pages, etc. so I tried to find and remove all that old state:

find . -iname "*title*" -print0 | xargs -0 rm -rf

That at least removed the last opened page and so on, but NOT the referenced font - at least I think that is the problem. The only thing I didn't to is to dive into the sqlite db.

I also added this book with a modified title (metadata + filename), but that didn't change anything either.

Am I missing something or am I on a completely wrong track?

Thanks!
Rhalina

KOReader: a document reader for PDF, DJVU, EPUB, FB2, CBZ, ... (AGPLv3)

KOReader is a document viewer application, originally created for Kindle e-ink readers. It is then ported to Kobo and Android devices and now it comes to the PocketBook's world. Currently only PocketBook 840 with firmware version 5.4 is tested.

Main features
  • supports multiple document formats including PDF, DJVU, EPUB, FB2, CBZ, etc.
  • with built-in k2pdfopt engine to reflow scanned PDF page on the fly
  • uses StarDict dictionaries / Wikipedia to lookup words
  • text/image highlights can be exported to Evernote cloud account
  • supports adding custom online OPDS catalogs
  • calibre integration

Installation
  • First, download a koreader build (zip files that begin with "koreader-pocketbook" in their filename) for PocketBook here: http://github.com/koreader/koreader/releases
  • Then, unzip the downloaded koreader build to your local storage. This will generate two directories namely "applications" and "system".
  • Finally, copy and merge the "applications" directory from the unzipped content to your PocketBook's USB storage.
  • If you want to associate KOReader with all PDF, EPUB, DJVU, FB2, CBZ documents you could copy and merge the "system" directory from the unzipped content to your PocketBook's USB storage. (This step is optional.)

KOReader is open-source software released under AGPLv3 license. KOReader project is hosted on Github here: https://github.com/koreader/koreader

PB624 EN keyboard layout with "|"

While trying to login @ goodreads I figured that there's no "|" on the keyboard so I couldn't type my password.
Since I didn't find an already made layout that would work I took the EN.kbd and modified it.

I thought of posting it here just in case someone might need it too.

I'm new to PB but I do believe it should work on other devices too.

Usage:
- Just extract it and copy the ZZ.kbd file to system/language/keyboard/
- In your device, select "ZZ: Custom" from Settings > Languages > Keyboard Layouts > Keyboard Layout 1 (or another one if you don't want it as the main keyboard)
- Now when shift is pressed you should have the "|" character (check out the screenshot)

Unable to register reader for Adobe DRM

I've just bought a used Touch Lux 2 (626) from Ebay. Its 6 months old and the default language is French.

When it arrived I made a copy of the existing files, reformatted the internal memory, set the language to English and configured my wi-fi. I then checked for software updates which it found and updated to version T626.4.4.1199 without any problems.

I then went to register the device with Abode DRM in Accounts and Synchronization. I can enter my email address and password, but nothing happens after I do this and I get an error when I try & open a DRM'd book. I only have four devices currently registered so I should be able to register my 626. The book I tried to open was the one I was reading on my Sony PRS-T1.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated as I have 300+ DRM'd books & I would prefer not to have to use Calibre and Alf before I can read them. :help:

RemoteInk - a tool for using PocketBook e-reader as a computer monitor

$

My eyes get tired when using a computer, that's why I bought an e-reader several years ago. After buying I got an idea to use the reader instead of a computer not only during reading books, but during other activities (when color transfer and monitor reaction time don't significant): browsing the Internet, writing texts, programming etc.

It's clear that you can't watch videos using the reader but writing texts on the reader is quite comfortable (remember your feelings during using a keyboard on a reader's touchscreen). I was surprised that I didn't find complete solutions to replace a computer monitor with my reader. There are several similar projects (some of them were referred on this forum), but, unfortunately, they weren't compatible with my reader or their use has not seemed to me quite comfortable. Nevertheless, their existence confirmed to me a relevance of this topic.

So, I developed RemoteInk program that allows to use Pocketbook Pro/Touch E-Ink reader as a computer monitor. The goal was an ability to comfortably use and control a computer's GUI using only the reader's screen without a typical monitor.

Note that at present only computers on Linux (and X11 window system) are supported.

Photo: Using Geany on Linux Mint with RemoteInk

With the current version you can:
* Connect a reader to a computer using Wi-Fi or USB
* Configure connection parameters in UI on the reader
* Change the reader's screen orientation (portrait or landscape)
* Select which part of the monitor is visible or zoom it
* Track windows (active window is always visible) and save its own scale for each of them
* Easily switch between windows
* Adjust active window's size to dimensions of the reader's screen
* See a cursor and restrict its movements to the area visible on the reader
* Invert screen colors
* Customize keyboard shortcuts for most of the actions above
* Set a password for a connection
* Use the application with a typical computer (with i686/amd64 architecture) or Raspberry Pi

The program's sources with full features description, installation and usage instructions are avaible on GitHub.

The project doesn't pretend to be perfect or widely used, but I hope that there are people for whom this program will be useful or insteresting. I'll be glad your comments.

extensions.cfg who can explain it

Hi!

I'd like to add a small "application" to my pocketbook. I want to be able to click on a file with my "own" extension and then this "application" should start.

This seems to work but for it I had to add a line to extensions.cfg looking a bit like this:

Code:

myext:@MYAPP_file:1:MYAPP.app:ICON_TXT
"myext" and "MYAPP.app" are clear to me.

@MYAPP_file seems to be a reference to some translatable text in system/language/CC.txt

What's the purpose of the "1"?

But what about "ICON_TXT"? I simply used it for now to have something. But what could I use here? Can I add my own Icon?

Charger and Cover for Inkpad 840

My apologies if this topic is already up and I missed it in my search...

I just purchased an 840 via eBay.

Cannot seem to find any info on a charger for it which appears to be an option and not included. I know I can charge it from my computer via the USB cable which takes much longer.

Also, will be looking for a case as they also appear scarce.

Preferably USA sources or very reliable overseas source.

Thanks in advance.

PS: Have already d/l the manual and the v 4.4 software from the Pocketbook site and have the software downgrading instructions bookmarked.

text formats supporting TOC and tables?

Hi!

While epub supports TOC and tables, I can't use this format for my purpose as it requires ZIP to create it. As there is just unzip and no zip on the PocketBook, my application can't create epub.

Is there any ebook format, supported by the pocketbook which can display (and format) tables and supports a ToC?
