Help! How do you install Acrobat on Pocket Book Ink Pad

$

So I recently got a Pocketbook and I've read many reviews saying they got a much better user experience by installing KoReader and other software. The only software that I've managed to successfully install has been KoReader, but I don't like it and would rather use the default ebook reader which can also dictate. I believe the default reader was Adobe Reader, but I can't find instructions on where to download a compatible version from or how to install it.

Can anyone help me?:help::help::help:

Inkpad 840 won't turn on

i have got a pocketbook inkpad 840.

it's almost a year old now, and always used it with a lot of pleasure :)

last week i have last used it, and it was almost fully charged when i put it away.

Now, it won't turn on!!!

It only shows the book cover (as selected in the settings), but does not respond to anything!

thins i tried:
  • Charging it for a couple of hours, then try to turn it on
  • Holding the on/off switch for 10 seconds minimum, to try to get to reset mode: does not do that!
  • as asked by pocketbook support: hook it up to charger, and hold on/off switch for at least 1 minute, then it should power up: held it for more than 5 minutes, no go!!!

it also won't respond to the < or > button, and the slider for the LED light won't respond either (tried that to see if i could deplete the battery completely to give it a full shutdown/reset).

any tips here?

Hello All,

I am absolutely new also here and also between the ebook users.

I've got my PocketBook Aqua just right now, and after opened the box I've plugged it into my laptop (to load the battery), then I've switched it on. Immediately - after switching-on -a screen can be seen "Terms of use" in Arabic language. I do not speak Arabic, I'm Hungarian..:help:

And I cannot do anything. I've tried to restart it several time, but only this screen can be seen, and the language is Arabic...

I've attached a photo about the screen.

Any idea?

Please, help me because I'll travel to abroad tomorrow, I'd like to use this ebook.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Which readers for PocketBook 622 would you recommend?

I'm currently using the stock reader. Only one problem pesters me: its handling of the djvu files. Either the TOC doesn't work at all or the app fails to detect the current chapter, falling back to the last one.

Is there anything better you would recommend? Or maybe it's possible to backport the main reader from fw 5.12?

Is the pocketbook 840 running linux?

If yes, is it possible to install custom programs? If yes again, where can I find them?
Is there a "starting guide" for these kind of things for the PB840? I mean where I can find all the sources for programs and customizations?

Thanks in advance

Displaying math formulas in pdfs

When reading pdfs with math formulas on my pocketbook 912, I quite often see that the letters are randomly moved, some letters are missing, like here:

The problem doesn't exist with the same pdf displayed on the computer. I have tried it also on some 9" OnyxBoox and it also showed the scrambled formulas.

What could be a reason for such a strange behavior? How can I fix that?

Hello,

My touch lux 3 is brand new from this morning.
I'm trying to update the firmware.

When i'm trying with the wifi to do the update i have always an error that the file is corrupted.

When i copy on the internal memory, the files disappear when i reboot....
The ereader never finds the files. I connect the all back, and no update files on the ereader.
When i do a new folder on the internal memory and i reboot, no new folder.

What im doing wrong ?

PS: it's my second touch lux 3, for the first one the wifi never worked.....

Can someone please help me ?

New Touch HD - Any love for it?

As someone who is interested in ereaders from the non-Big 2 (Amazon/Kobo), I see Pocketbook have a new 300dpi reader and wonder if there are yet any owners with reviews/feedback on it?

I found one German language review which was quite favourable.

The recent falling £sterling exchange rate means it would currently cost me £140+ (which seems to be about £30 more than a Tolino Shine 2HD).

How to write an app for Pocketbook?

Hello,

I read some of the threads in here. And I search somethings via Google but I can't figure out how can I begin to write my app for Pocketbook. Can anyone write a roadmap for from scratch?

I am a web developer, I know JS, PHP, PYTHON. So if its possible with that language. If it's not possible what should I learn?

Pocketbook Touch HD - bugs or features? :)

After seeing positive opinions about Touch HD, I've ordered a device. It arrived today, and after short testing, I've found couple of annoying bugs.

- There doesn't seem to be a way to zoom in on an image in an epub file. In Android pocketbook reader app, you can long press on an image to zoom it in. On Touch HD, there doesn't seem to be anything like that, except manually pinching out to zoom in - which is both imprecise and doesn't allow for quick return to the previous font size. Am I missing something, or is Pocketbook eink software unfriendly towards images?

- There doesn't seem to be any support for Japanese fonts. I have a book with a few Japanese phrases. Those phrases are rendered as spaces - even after adding a Unicode OTF Japanese font (Google's Noto CJK) to the device, and selecting it in the list, the phrases have not been rendered correctly. Anyone had any better luck?

- I've found at least two books in my collection that only show first page once opened. As far as I can tell, the files on the device are not corrupted (same checksum as on the desktop), for some reason the device is unable to parse them properly past first page :( I've tried to open it in Android's Pocketbook app, and I see the same behaviour. Same file is perfectly readable on a Kobo reader or with different Android readers. Here's a link to one of the books misbehaving like that.

I find the device rather nice, the screen is gorgeous, and the software seems functional... except the above behaviours are deal breakers for me :( I'm curious if any person here has bumped into similar problems.

Text annotations on InkPad 2

Hello,

I am considering to purchase bigger then 6" eReader. One of the option would be PocketBook InkPad 2. I am using Kindle PaperWhite at the moment. Ther I can mark (highlight part of the text) and also add note to that text or just bookmark a page. All this is stored in proprietary external file format.

I use Calibre as my home library and books I actively reading are on my eReader. If I like to keep all my notes, highlights and bookmarks I need to copy manually book with those extra proprietary files to/from Kindle to keep it.

I wonder how it is in PocketBook world? Kindle is really annoying in this regard for side loaded books.

Thank you for you help in advance.

Help needed: Epubinfo.app for Pocketbook - adjust to screen resolution

$

I installed the epubinfo.app found in this thread (in Themes_4.4.x.zip) on my Pocketbook Touch HD with 1072 x 1448 dpi. The app shows the metadata and works if you add an entry into extensions.cfg, but the font size is really tiny. It was originally built for the Touch Lux with 1024 x 758 dpi.

Unfortunately, I have no experience in programming, so I was wondering if someone here could help me out and adjust the font size to match the higher resolution of the Touch HD.
The creator of the app hasn't been active since 2014, otherwise I'd have asked him.

Search word in book (PB Touch Lux 3)

I have looked at several video reviews and also searched this forum but could not figure this one out.

Can you search for a word within the book you are reading? Specifically like this: You tap a word in the book and then find previous occurences within the same book.
On my current Sony PRS T1 this is there and very useful to look up characters I do not remember the details for, this way I can get back easily to when that character is introduced then back to where I was reading. On the T1 you get arrows for this to visit the places where that word is in the book.

If this is available on PB3, how does it work?

(Frequent double page turns and complete lock-ups on my T1 is driving me crazy, I have to replace).

Thanks!

Pocketbook Annotations Extraction

Dear Pocketbook users now using the latest software releases:

WARNING: ANNOTATIONS ARE A PROBLEM

The history:

I loved the format of annotations offered by Toxaris's Annotation Extractor based on the Sony annotations extractor: see the thread here:

http://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=170051

The Toxaris annotation exporter does the same thing: it extracts the sql from a file entitled books.db on any Kobo or Sony ereader, and the result looks great, as you can see on Toxaris's website:

https://toxaris.nl/en/annotation-exporter/

His thread for annotations at Mobileread.com is here:

http://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=262913

In previous versions of the pocketbook software, the highlights and annotations for each ebook (whether epub or mobi) were stored in a separate file in the system directory of the device as an html file.

The new software for the Pocketbook series of eReaders has changed recently to the sql format: precisely what the Sony and Kobo eReaders use.

You can guess my next question:

Is there anyone out there developing an annotations extractor for the new Pocketbook software? Or (even better) would it be possible to add to the annotations extractor already available a new configuration for the Pocketbook Touch HD (which uses the same software as the latest Pocketbook Inkpad 2 etc)?

The link to the original code for the annotations extractor is here:
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=170051

The sql code stored on the Pocketbook HD 631 is located in a books.db file.

Here's what it looks like:

http://www55.zippyshare.com/v/FWqtwM6m/file.html

The file is located in the \system\config folder of the Pocketbook ereader.

I suppose anyone working on the problem will also need information for the SD Card in order to get the notes from that.

Could anyone help me? I know there are thousands of Pocketbook users out there who would appreciate it.

Let me know if I can help!

Cheers,

B.

How good is Koreader working with PocketBook Touch HD ?

$

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of buying a PocketBook Touch HD because of what I've read so far.
The device itself seems to be quite hackable/extendable and the original software doesn't seem that bad.

What's important to me is proper PDF support, so I want to get Koreader running.
Does anyone use Koreader with this device, how stable is it, and is it easy to integrate ?
I read something about an "Open with menu" so can I just open documents from the standard ui with Koreader instead of the native reading app then ?

Is there anything else what I should know about this device, that's negative in terms of privacy, silent auto firmware updates in the background that I can't block etc...

Thank you!

Selector - bringing "open with" menu back

Since Pocketbook removed/crippled the open with menu in FW5, extension.cfg is not what it was before.
Epubinfo.app was helping to overcome this limit regarding the epub-file format. I wanted this for other filetypes to (f.i. to decide if KoReader or AdobeViewer should be used with pdf-files).

This is a quick and dirty patch of epubinfo.app to have it working with other filetypes too. I renamed it to avoid confusion. Program changes are in an early state. If other filetypes than epub are opened, the program now shows only standard cover without any infos and after clicking at the center of screen allows the selection of the opening app, following the entries in extension.cfg.

I couldn't get Koreader in the actual configuration work properly with it, but after changing the /system/bin/koreader.app
before:
Quote:

if [ `echo $@ | wc -c` -eq 1 ]; then
args="/mnt/ext1/"
else
args="$@"
fi
into:
Quote:

if [ `echo $@ | wc -c` -eq 1 ]; then
args="/mnt/ext1/"
else
args="$1"
fi
it seems to work fine.

Thanks goes to SirSteiner and the unknown original French author of epubinfo for providing the sources. Compiled version is for PB626 FW5.

selector.app goes into /system/bin and extension.cfg has to be changed/created accordingly f.i.:
Quote:

pdf:@PDF_pdf:@PDF_file:1:selector.app,AdobeViewer. app,koreader.app:ICON_PDF
Bugs: Filenames with "." are not working properly.
