Onyx boox m92 and m96 broken screen

Hello everyone.
I have two onyx boox readers with broken screens - m92 and m96 universe.
The distributor says that the damage is way beyond warranty and they won't replace the screens.
I live in NY, United States and can't find any office that would replace the screens for me.
I by myself can open reassemble the readers and order the screens, but by far I couldn't find the information of how to replace them. The most confusing part is whether the cables that connect the screen to the reader's body are just attached to it (so i can just pull them off with my bare hands and attach the ew screen the same way) - flex cables.
or those cables are soldered to the reader's body so i will have to solder them back which is not doable for me.

Also the model and voltage of the screen. I've encountered a few posts that stated that the model of the screen must be very particular and the screens on the same models of readers vary significantly. is it still up to date? Can i use the same model of the screen on both m92 and m96 ? May be I may use screen from amazon dx that seems the same?
Still can't figure many questions.

I would appreciate any help on the subject.

I thing I toasted my ebook reader.
I did an update to 2.1.3. After that everything was fine. I started to read a book and after a day I could not scroll of move to next pages.
I realised that the reader is blocked. I tried to restart the device (reset and hard reset) but it didn't help.

Any idea what went wrong or how to fix this problem?

Inkpad2 Some inquires about this device...

hallo,

I see that this device is larger than the kobo AURA ONE. Inkpad2 seems like an interesting device due to the 8" screen size but what about some other areas?

So I'd would like to ask here what are user experience with the Inkpad2 in respect to a few things:

- is the screen resolution high enough to be crisp at 8"?
- how's the battery life? (kobo AURA ONE is pathetic)
- Is hack friendly? (sideloading, custom dictionaries, koreader, extra apps, customization, etc)
- How's the turn page e-ink? (AURA ONE is pretty smooth)
- What about build quality? (AURA ONE back cover is bulging and I can run my finger between the front glass and plastic edge [so much for waterproof claims])
Some points in favor that I see reading the specs that KOBO AURA ONE lacks is microSD, audio jack, PRICE!!

Any inkpad2 user reccomend it?

danke!

Hi all

Recently I bought used pocketbook inkpad 840 with damaged display. I repaired the display but meanwhile I lost internal SD card with firmware. I unpacked FWUPDATE.bin with "pbfwsplit.pl" script from this side: http://fedor.yu.wildpark.net/?p=257, but how to deploy images to SD card ? Maybe anybody has image of internal SD card (e.g. prepared with dd tool).

I see a way to turn on a password to protect my settings on the Pocketbook touch HD, but is there anyway to lock the device with a password when locking it?

Cool Reader sees but won't use custom fonts on PB TL 3

After purchasing Pocketbook Touch Lux 3 I have installed my favorite Bookerly font which I got used to on my Kindle and have read all books with this font so far. Today I have installed Cool Reader on my PB. CR allows to set Bookerly as desired font, but it won't use it. Embedded fonts are turned off.
How can I make CR actually use custom font I installed on PB?
I've searched the forum but was unlucky to find apropriate thread.

Edit. I have found it works on certain books, on some others I just cannot make CR use Bookerly or change font at all.. I will investigate this further. Perhaps the source of books matters...
Edit2. I didn't realize that along embedded fonts also embedded styles have to be turned off to use desired custom font.

I can't delete the post now that my problem is solved, so hopefully it helps somone with similar question in the future.

Inkpad 2 - reader automatically opens articles via browser

Hello there,

I have recently bought Inkpad 2. I'm using it mostly for reading web articles send to reader via Chrome plugin Push to Kindle with pocketbook e-mail address. Everything is fine, but when I'm moving to last page of article (using physical keys) the reader automatically tries to open current article in built-in browser. It's really annoying, and I'm looking for some solution or at least workaround. I have the latest version of firmware (5.15) installed. Have anyone else encountered this kind of issue?

Best regards,

How is the PocketBook 626 Touch Lux 3 when it comes to reading scientific PDFs?

Does anyone have any experience with the PocketBook 626 Touch Lux 3 when it comes to reading scientific PDFs?

I am looking for a device that is great for reading ebooks, and preferably also decent for reading and performing rudimentary annotation on scientific PDFs (2-3 columns, some figures). I am currently choosing between the Touch Lux 3 and the Kindle Paperwhite3 (a tablet is not an option for me due to eye strain).

The pocketbook is 30 CAD more expensive than the Kindle, for slightly worse screen resolution and slower processor. But pocketbook seems to have great PDF features based on this video. Hardware buttons, and support for all ebook formats are also advantages to me.

PocketBook Web Browsing Tips?

I just got my Pocketbook 626 Touch Lux 3, yesterday and I have had a great time reading both epubs and multicolumn PDFs on it already! To my surprise the web browsing experience was not a choppy as I had expected from an eReader. I mostly want to use it for reading about topics on Wikipedia and there are a few issues, which if remedied would make the web experience great!

1. By far the most important: How to I increase the font size / zoom the text when viewing mobile wikipedia (the default on pocketbook)? On the desktop wikipedia site, the current zoom setting increases the size of images and the text as one might expect (although there is no text reflow). However, when increasing the zoom on the mobile wikipedia, the size of the images is increased but the font size remains the same. Instead of increasing the font size, each line is made longer so that it does not fit on the screen... Which naturally is useless and a shame because the rest of the experience with mobile wiki is great, and increased font size would make the wikipedia browsing experience on this device thoroughly enjoyable!

2. How do I change the start page? It is currently German Google, and I would like it to be English Wikipedia, which I have marked as a favourite already.

3. Is there an option for text reflow somewhere? I am thinking this might be what it ruining the zoom experience for the mobile version of pages.

4. Can I install an alternative browser on the PocketBook reader? The only alternative firmware I know about is KOReader, but I believe they don't include a browser (correct me if I am wrong, I haven't used it).

Cheers

Anyone have any information or reviews on the Pocketbook Fashion 630 Kenzo? I'm looking for a new reader and saw this one on ebay. Is it the same as the Touch Lux 3 or the Touch HD? Any info or insights would be appreciated.

[Rant] On the PocketBook Firmware

One year ago I bought an Inkpad 840 specifically because the pbimageviewer app existed. I was leaning more towards the Onyx, the one with the same screen but running Android, knowing that nowadays the OS defines a device, but the existence of this app pushed me over to the Inkpad.

My primary use case was (and still is) reading manga in the summer, under the sun, hence my need for a large HD eInk screen. I got a 128 GB SD card to go with it, to keep my entire collection on the reader and I couldn't have been happier, right?

Well, I have been more than happy with rkomar's app: it does everything you might want and has great performance.

Unfortunately, I was less impressed by the firmware.
  • Let's start with the most trivial and the most obvious: the horrible 3 book carousel in the homepage. Surely people are reading more than 3 things at the same time? This is compounded by the fact that with manga you usually have separate CBZs for each book or even chapter, so the list quickly fills up with the single most recent thing you've been reading.
  • On top of that, items in the SD card would not show up at all in the homepage (even regular ebooks) which got me puzzled for a while, until a firmware update a few months later fixed it.
  • The builtin browser is complete garbage, as any PB owner quickly finds out. A version of Opera Mini taken from a cheap Nokia phone (the ones with no touchscreen and 4 MB of RAM) would have been more useful.
  • The file browser only has two possible views, each more annoying than the other: an icon mode that truncates the filenames and a list mode that only shows 5 items or such per page. Really, PocketBook? You sell a device with a 1600x1200 8" screen and you're showing me 5 lousy items per page? Was that designed by the same genius who did the 3 book carousel in the homepage? Are your programmers blind or just stupid?
  • I apologize if this list is short, but I only ever needed to do 3 things with my Inkpad: fly over the useless homepage; using the file browser to open files; and trying the web browser, foolishly thinking I could read the news or download an ebook. Yeah, right. The mind boggles at the chasm of hopelessness and despair I would have plunged into, had I tried to use the other builtin apps, the social features, and so on.
  • Finally, today I accepted the firmware update that had been bugging me for a while and... the damn thing froze on Database Update. No way to go forwards or backwards.

Running out of options, I downloaded the 4.4 firmware from their homepage (AHA! So they know their newer software is mediocre!) and lo and behold, most of these problems disappeared. Now I can actually keep track of what I'm reading and browse the contents of my SD card more easily.

What do you people think? Have you upgraded to 5 or downgraded to 4? How do you think this OS compares to the competition? Am I just having bad luck, or focusing on irrelevant details?

---

Quick instructions for any passers-by: just download an appropriate firmware zip for your model, extract SWUPDATE.BIN into the internal memory or into the SD, and power it on while keeping both up and down buttons pressed. Wait for several flashes and reboots, don't touch anything until you get back to the PocketBook OS. Then download the correct versions of any custom apps (such as pbimageviewer) and install them over the old ones.

PocketBook Inkpad 2 PDF in landscape mode

$

Hi,

I am interested in PocketBook Inkpad 2, but I couldn't find info for some specifics.
I read PDFs, and like to read them in landscape mode. How does the Inkpad 2 handle these:
- Can PDFs be read in landscape mode?
- Is there a "one action" way of "turning" to the next part of the page (in PDF and landscape mode)? For example, a Kindle splits a page in 2/3 parts, and if you tap on the bottom, it goes to the next part. Very simple. I am asking this because I saw other readers (Kobo Aura One, IIRC) that don't have this feature and you have to manually scroll - which is a hassle on an e-ink screen.
- Does it add an obscene amount of margins? Can the margins be customized (in PDF mode)? I currently have a 6 inch high-res Kindle, so the size is the main reason for the Inkpad 2, but if it adds huge margins, it won't make such a big difference to a 6 incher...
- When in landscape, can you rotate 180 degrees (so you can hold it both ways)?

Thanks.

opening two documents side by side

Hi all,

I wonder if any application is able to open two documents simultaneously.

I want to read open and read to documents at the same time. One at the top of the screen and second at the bottom. (or possibly in two tabs).

Do you know if any reader which could be installed on pocketbook can do this?

I also thought to write a html documents with iframes and open it in some html reader.

PocketBook Basic 2 614 - questions

Hi all! Just discovered this forum and it's awesome.
I wanted to adress some issues (or questions) that I have with my Basic 2.

1. Did someone manage to install CoolReader on a 614? I would like to see how it works but I dont' wanna brick it
2. Does someone know how to make FbReader default in reading ePubs? (I don't wanna long-press and select "open with" every time)
3. I've managed to install some new fonts. Now, does someone has themes for the 614?

If I think of some other things, I'm gonna update this thread.
In the meantime, :thanks:

PocketBook 631 Touch HD dictionaries

$

Hi!

I have recieved today my first ebook reader (which is, as mentioned in the title, PocketBook 631 Touch HD) and I am pretty disappointed just from the beginning. The main purpose I bought the device was to read some german books with some help of the dictionary. I haven't updated the firmware (which is dated 12 august 2016), so I hope there is some fixes there, but the german to english dictionary is useless right now... It can search only the simple forms (for example, a past form from "see" in german is unrecognizable!) and doesn't work with split-by-newline words.

Do you know any good for learner german to english (or polish) dicitionaries which have also the other forms of verbs and are able to cope with nouns (plural forms) and adjectives? It would be really nice to also get the other forms in the word definition part.

The second thing - do you know any resources where I can find books on lowered levels of german? Also to buy? I saw some ebooks for kindle on amazon, but it looks like there are not so many for the PocketBook...

Thank You for any help in advance!
