new firmware 5.19.656: eink-reader crashes?

I've updated my Touch HD2 to the last firmware a few days ago, and am surprised to find that various of my epubs crash the builtin reader. I cannot pinpoint the very latest firmware, but to the best of my memory, I had no earlier problem with those particular ones. And the release notes spell "Fixed: 1. Inability to open some EPUB books" - which sounds suspicious...
It may well be my device, but I note that I have still 2.5GB free on /ext1, ad that a factory reset did not help (it trashed all my neat added apps and dictionaries, though... :smack:)

Could someone test some of these epubs on their devices with older or newest FW and report?

Choose epub with images please. Try to navigate to some page in the middle of the book. To me, that simply quits the reader. Each book seems to have a point beyond which the reader gives up. Coolreader instead copes with them normally.

Those books are produced with the PG toolchain, which should be a guarantee of sanity. I actually coded them and have had fine control on the html. They are medium sized, but no way monsters. Understanding what's wrong may provide feedback to PB, or help me produce better books for PG.

spanish-spanish dict (where came it from?)

I once had on my PB a nice es-es dictionary, and I lost it upon factory reset. It was a comprehensive one giving various latin american usages, and I can't recollect where I downloaded it from. Does someone have a pointer to it? I haven't been able to locate it across the threads...
I also remember a russian repository of all dictionaries ported to pb, which I haven't refound. Does it still exist?

Pocketbook touch lux 3.problem extracting html

I am a user a Pocket Book 3 and fully satisfied.
ONLY PROBLEM: I am extracting highligths getting .html file \system\config\ActiveContent.
I am getting a text with repetitions ( part in Bold). How can get a clean content, with no repetition?
I would like to extract a text file with all my highlights.

New pocketbook inkpad 3

:help:Hi all,
I have a new pocketbook inkpad 3 and I am currently busy to discovers the working. I have some questions I don't find in the user manual.
1. I would like to adapt the start page, the current page is now:
www.palmknihy.cz, and I don't find the way how to adapt.
2. while reading an epub, you can adapt the line spaces, lettertype..., there are 3 boxes with a white content you can select and there are 3 boxes with a black box content. I suppose it is the invert of the normal read, black letters with a white background. But when I select one of these three boxes, nothings happen whit my ebooK. Does something not correctly working.
3. When you zoom out in a pdf is there a way to auto back to normal mode.

Can't see the whole text

Hi guys!
I am pretty new in eBook area. I got one Pocketbook 360 plus, I add 1 book to it, and it cuts the text in right.
I can see the whole text only when its so little, and I cant read that way.
Its not justify or how it calls, and I dont know hot to set up that, and did't see nowhere on internet.

modify permanently pocketnews.css

Today I modified the pocketnews.css (in /news folder) file on PC, but I realized that once the PB was detached from the PC, this stylesheet returned to its original form; it was only possible for me to work on the internal style of a hrss file (and this worked, but it's not a good solution).
How can I change permanently pocketnews.css?

Book cover for plain text file

Hello everyone,

after a long abstinence from e-reading and with my Hanlin V3 not working properly anymore I have treated me now with a brand new Touch HD 3.

What I can't figure out is how to display book covers for files in plain text. I have tried putting a jpg with the same name as the txt file in the same folder but that doesn't do the trick. Is it even possible to display book covers for books not having them stored with the content at all? How is it with html files?

Could I package text and image into some other format with e. g. Calibre if the Touch doesn't do it out of the box? (Calibre has also evolved a lot since I last used it.)

touch lux 2 no screen files access

Hello. I unfortunately broke the screen of my device. Pocketbook is not offering any replacement solution, nor any mean of access to my files. I don't feel like replacing the screen myself, it seems risky to buy a part and try and fix it. It's also an opportunity to buy something new I guess. I was wondering if there was any software capable of forcing the "PC link" mode to access my files since it's not the device default behavior. Or to straight up access the storage from a PC. I looked around the forums but was unable to find an existing solution. Please halp!

Inkpad 3 and sound

Hi,
I bought an Inkpad 3 a few months ago. It works fine and I am very pleased with it.
This week I tried the sound features on the Inkpad. To my surprise TTS, music player do not work. I see the menu with the buttons but when I press the play button, nothing happens. I use ordinary earphones connected to the Inkpad using the dongle that comes with the reader.
I am already in a very long email conversation about the problem wih pocketbook support; they keep me asking all kind of information that is beside the point ( ex. "Bluetooth features of your earphones") but no solution yet. I already reset to factory settings twice, no respons.

Any suggestions?

I'm based in the USA and am looking for a reliable retailer to purchase an InkPad 3. I've tried goodereader.com, but it quickly turned very unprofessional and I will never deal with them again.

PB Inkpad 3 issues *Opinions Please!*

Hello everyone!

So I'm a student, and a few weeks before Christmas my Paperwhite 2 hit the curb after years of loyalty. Since, I'd prefer not to support megacorporations taking over further, I decided not to buy a new Kindle. And since I'm European, the pick fell onto a Pocketbook. Being Christmas and all, I decided to treat myself to a new 7,8" Inkpad 3, reading how everyone's quite happy with it and all the great written and youtube reviews.

Intro over, thanks for holding up!

So far, I've had it for a little over a month and to be honest - I'm not very happy with it. Here are the issues I have with which maybe you can help:

1. Dictionary support seems to be quite worse than Kindle's. I'm reading a lot in Russian, yet I'm not a native, so an explanatory dictionary with accenting and conjugation is a must for me. The one provided for free on PB´s website isn´t good at all, so I bought the one offered on bookland. Well guess what: No accenting or conjugation either! Kindle's free Rus-Rus dictionary had accenting and it isn't even marketed in Russia, come on! Guys, please, if you have a solution for this issue, hit me up, this is one of the most important points in an e-reader for me, as I read only in foreign languages!

2. Basic PDF functionality is glitchy and clunky. I downloaded some of my material from uni onto the inkpad 3, but from time to time it would freeze when I try to zoom in or flip to the next page, reaching the point when I'd have to restart it. I find this absurd, considering their advertising of this superb new dual-core processor. My old PW2 almost never froze.

3. Some other functions seem to not be acting properly:
-Doesn't always connect to the Wi-Fi when I turn it on;
-Send-to-PB email is clunky and downloading doesn't happen right away (I have to go manually in the settings and tell PB to download from my email, even though the auto-download function is on);
-I can't highlight a passage if it's continuing over to the next page (I have to make 2 separate highlights);
-Sometimes when I pause an audiobook and then resume it (I've made my menu button be a pause-resume button) the sound disappears, yet the audiobook is playing, so I have to pause again, retrack and play again to resume the actual sound.

So yeah, quite a few downsides for me, but I'm being skeptical, as maybe I simply haven't properly set up my PB?
Do software issues occur often?
Should I try a factory reset?
Any advices on the dictionary front and working with PDFs (I'm not talking about complex scientific papers, just some 10-15 page everyday articles for an Arts' student)?
Any general guidelines, tips and advices on how to properly set up my PB so that I can have a good time and actually want to turn it on, use it and read on it?


P.S. For whatever reason I decided that I don't need to take my warranty with me when I left home after the holidays (I'm studying abroad), so sending it to a factory/asking for a replacement isn't something I'm motivated in attempting as it's going to be quite a complex procedure to execute. Of course, if push comes to shove, I will have to do so, but how do I even know whether it's my exact PB that's acting strange and not simply PB being a little inferior to Kindle?

Mount and/or extract files from SWUPDATE.bin?

I have extracted the sw-file from the update image, but can't seem to find out how to mount it, or understand the structure in order to extract files.

I have searched here (and on google) without finding anything.

Anyone know the format?

When is a book really updated? Data cached?

I love the easy it is sending books to the reader via dropbox. :)

But, I have noticed that if I do an update to the epub and put the new one in dropbox, it stills seems to be the old one on the reader.

At least it looks like it.

Before I go down the path of doing a bunch of test to try to figure out what happens when, I'm sure others have done the same thing before me. Is there any writeup about this? Or any details about books.db?


For example:

I put the epub in dropbox, sync on the reader and open the book. I delete the book on the reader, sync, and it removes from dropbox. I change something in css, or add an <p>-line, put the updated epub in dropbox, sync on the ereader, open it. It does not show the new changes.

Is the books cached? And not cleared even when deleted?

Touch HD(PB631) ePub3 series management

Hello, everybody.

I'm currently having this issue with my PB631 Pocketbook Touch HD:
it doesn't show a book's Series(and series number) if the book is a ePub3

If the book is a ePub2, it reads the calibre:series and calibre:series_index metadata, but it ignores the belongs-to-collection metadata of ePub3 books, which Calibre itself uses to identify series in ePub3 books

Any workaround beside remaking my ePub3 books into ePub2?

Not able to handle large images?

I bought a book today that didn't show the cover and neither the second page (also an image).

It did read the cover, a thumbnail was created.

I got curious and started to test.... after a couple of hours and having created 50+ images in various sizes it seems to be that if an image is larger than a certain size with a certain perspective it is not shown.

Anyone else seen this? I had someone test on a Touch HD 3, and it seems to be the same problem as with my Inkpad 3 (U740.5.19.660).

Image sizes:

Does NOT work:
1856 (and higher) x 1900

Works:
1832 (and lower) x 1900

Does NOT work:
2404 (and higher) x1500

Works:
2244 (and lower) x1500

I tested with jpg-files. Did one test with one png-file and it didn't seem to be any difference. Also tested with both normal html img and with svg-wrapper.

Thoughts?

Touch HD2 enable network over usb?

I can only select USB mode between 'PC-link' and 'Download', there is no 'Network over USB' option like I've seen some people have at least in older Pocketbook models.

Can this feature be somehow enabled?

3.5" plug audio quality (Touch HD2)?

I encoded some music files with lame to .mp3 (lame --preset standard file.flac) and copied them on the device and.. the sound quality is very bad with extra clicks and pops. I'm running the latest firmware with the new audio player. There seemed to be also three sound files there by default, at least one of them had the same issue.

Anyone got normal sound quality for music using the 3.5" stereo output?

App for reading Websites? (GithubWiki, Gitlab, Wikipedia, ...)

Hello,

I would like to read text and docs from the internet, which is most in a uniform structure like Github Wikis, Wikipedia, Javadoc, Forumsoftware.

It's much more comfortable to read from an eye-friendly device in a silent surrounding, than from a computer-screen with the fan noise in the background.
Until yet, I did it with the browser on the Touch Lux 3. But that's so uncomfortable and clumsy.

Are there already solutions for this?
Like converters/extractors which take the content, write it readable in a .epub file?
Or an app, that can handle the content directly and optimally display it?
