Inkpad 840 screen not updating content

Hi all,
after using my Inkpad 1 for 4 and a half years without any issues, its screen is having serious problems.
As you can see in this video, the touch actions function but the screen updates its content only if i first put the device to sleep and i wake it up.
https://youtu.be/8Fv6f-Dx9nk

Earlier today, i have managed to upgrade to firmware 5.20 and then downgrade again to 4.40, in an attempt to see if can be a software problem.

Has anyone faced similar problems?
Do you think there is something that can be done, or should i start looking for a new device?
Would it be worthwhile trying to change the screen?

Update: After i posted, i saw that the screen doesn't refresh at all. I can turn the device on and of, i can tell it because the frontlight is getting activated and deactivated, but the screen is stuck to the recent events view.

Inkpad 3 for RSS reading

Hello forum,

I’m looking for an ebook reader for RSS reading and wondering if the Pocketbook RSS app is a viable alternative to Android apps, such as SpaRSS ?
  • For example, does it offer full-text download for offline reading, or will it only fetch titles and summaries?
  • How is the fetch speed and general experience with e-ink, and how’s system performance compared to, say, Android or IOS apps?
Many thanks for your input!
Tom

Touch HD 3 internals?

Was wondering if there's a teardown of the TH3. I just want to see if there's some kind of back plate to reinforce the eink screen. The TH3 is only 155grams so I'm worried there might be none because of the lightness. I used to have an inkbook but that one cracked easily so I'm looking for a sturdier alternative with page buttons. Cheers!

Touch HD3: series management and auhor names

After trying different devices I'm currently reading on a Touch HD3, as it seams to have the least issues . Just some annoying things I would like to resolve:

- I use Calibre to organize my library and format author names by last name first (e.g. "Austen, Jane"). One the device in the library app only the last name appears. This seems to have to do with the comma between last name and fist name, since books by "Jane Austen" appear under the full name.
Is there an option somewhere to make PB show the full "last name, fist name"?

- Series information is not supported for epub3, which I found out thanks to this thread (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=315179). Is there any news concerning this problem or is there a workaround?

Touch HD 3: BT remote

Hello,

I've got the HD3 specifically for the bluetooth feature, making the assumption that, since it's Android-based, it would accept BT devices as inputs.

I've managed to pair my remote (Logitech R500), unfortunately I can't turn pages using the built-in keypresses (page down/up and arrow left/right), nor when remapping directly to letters to use as input in e.g. the browser.

in /system/config/global.cfg there is mention of gkey, pkey and tkey keybindings, but I can't seem to relate these to any (android or java-based) keyboard codes. This still does not resolve aforementioned issue about lack of input outside the reader.

I've done a lot of (soul)searching about this issue, but all relevant topics are outdated as far as I can find. I've also sent a support request to PocketBook itself, so should that end up providing an answer, I will post it here.

Any hints?

Pocketbook Touch HD 3 clock broken.

I have this issue on my pocketbook. The system clock just does not run anymore. It always shows the same time. Or sometimes it advances a few minutes and after restart is back to the initial time. This started after installation of Koreader. Factory reset, formatting and reflashing the firmware does not solve the issue. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Pocketbooks and Overdrive

Just a quick question... A user posting in the Kobo forum bought a Pocketbook InkPad 3 and can't get it to work with Overdrive borrowing. I don't own a Pocketbook so am asking if anyone here uses Overdrive and how is it done in a Pocketbook? (I use the Tolino browser to download Overdrive books directly and it looks like Pocketbook might work the same, but I'm having trouble confirming that.)

Thanks for any information.

Inkpad 840 - new firmware = no loading or removing books etc

I updated to the latest firmware (520) and I can't add or delete files. It all looks good in windows but when I go back to ereader all the files I deleted are still there i and any files I added are not there. I've tried rolling back firmware via SD card slot but it doesn't work (gone back two versions, the process starts then goes into boots up with no firmware change).
I've tried formatting, and windows says the drive is working fine.

Any ideas?

I have searched.. honest

I'm guessing I can't make my PocketBook InkPad 3 run Google Play Books (other than through the browser) ?

I've tried sideloading an .apk but no luck (assume the InkPad isn't Android ?)

Are there any workarounds ?

Pocketbook 3 128GB sdcard confirmed

The InkPad 3 finaly arrived, I got lucky and bought it "new open box" for 150 Euros, yay me :D

I was curious about the 32gb limit caused by the SDHC compatibility of the device. Using Gparted, i just formated a 128 micro sd card (its actually the sd card I had in my phone, a Samsung evo select 126gb) to fat32, copied 50 gb of pdfs and manga just enough to test it, inserted it into the InkPad 3 and started enjoying my tastes in escapism here and there when instead should have been reading scientific papers for some research that is due in two weeks... :o

I also plan on getting a 512 GB card when possible, so I will update this post when I try using it.

TLDR; format the sdcard to fat32 (tested only with gparted in ubuntu) and enjoy your pocketbook with 128Gb storage , it should work on other "limited devices".

Surfing the interwebs, got lucky and ran into this post

http://www.lectoreselectronicos.com/...s-del-InkPad-3

The cover with metal shielding on the PCB might serve as wifi antena and also to discourage curious eyes to de-solder it and find out what is hiding inside ;)

I remember that there is an EU website that has the applications of devices for the CE logo or something like that. It has the tear-downs making us a favor, does anyone remember whats the website? I would love to take a look before taking apart mine :p

The hope is to find a micro or pico sdcard hiding under. Why you ask? better sd card, higher IOps, higher reading/writting speeds (at least to top the USB2 speeds) and thus better better InkPad 3 :D

Al clues are greatly appreciated :thanks:

Unfortunately I can't get the image file complete off my micro SD card. However I have everything else to get this ereader working again.

Does anyone have an image file, ideally of the 840 but I'll also give the inkpad 2 image file ago.

Thanks

Hi, the battery of my Pocketbook Pro 903 is dead. I can't charge it anymore. I opened the device, and tried a Google search for this type of battery.
None of the search result give a battery that is suitable as replacement.
Are there still replacement batteries available ? And what would be the price.
Thank you in advance.

Touch HD 3 - Fragile?

Hi, I am coming back after a long absence. I still use my first gen. Onyx Boox A60 from 2009! I would like to upgrade though.

Currently, I am torn between PB Touch HD 3 and Paperwhite 4. I would prefer PB but I read some comments of the users who dropped their device accidentally from a table etc and broke its screen even though it was sitting in the case. Is the screen really that fragile? As I said, I use my old ereader for a decade now, travelled with it around the world, dropped it many times without its case being on and it still works just OK. I would not like to switch to a device with a very fragile screen.

Pocketbook HD 3, battery drains in a day without using it

Hello,
I just bought a brand new pocketbook HD 3, lovely device, but sadly something is wrong with it. When I received it, I charged it for 12 hours, as it is mentioned in manual. After disconnecting it, I went for university and when I came back in evening, it was discharged. I though there was some mistake, and I charged it again. After charging it again, I spent like 15 minutes reading a book before it turned off and notified me that battery is low, I need to charge it. I charged it, and again after 20 minutes it is off. I have turned all automatic settings, wifi, bt, I have reinstalled firmware, nothing changed. The reader is brand new, I bought it unpacked, but I don't know if it is a software issue, or it is a hardware issue. Did anyone had any experience like that? Also, it freezes very often, even after reinstalled firmware, while it is in the book, or in homescreen. Pocketbook recommended me to do picture slideshow test, to check battery. But I can't do it, because it freezes after a few minutes. Did anyone had any battery and freezing related issues with pocketbook HD 3? If yes, please let me know how did you solved them.
Before I had pocketbook basic lux 3, and it was superb device, but hd3 is unusable right now.

Thank You in advance for Your thoughts

Touch HD 3 frontlight and nightmode

Hi,

I'm currently looking at buying one of these to replace my old kobo glo (which I spectacularly cracked after messing with the insides).

I'm planning on using a 3rd party reader to invert the colours at night but know that with the newer screen tech this tends to cause lots of ghosting on page turns.

Does anyone know how obvious it is on this model?

I also prefer my frontlight to be very low at night, so I'm hoping that someone with a Touch HD 3 could take a photo of it in the dark with the light as low as it will go so I can have an idea if it is too bright.

Thanks,

Qs on using "Send to Pocketbook" & text-to-speech

I'm considering buying the Inkpad 3 Pro. Much of my reading is articles from online news sources, which I send to my Kobo Clara reader with Send to Pocket. It works great and I want this functionality. Does Send to Pocketbook provide this functionality?

Also, can anyone tell me their impressions of the text to speech tool on Pocketbook? I'd love to be able to catch up on "reading" while giving my eyes a break. Thanks!
