Hi, My Pocketbook Touch HD 3 has installed the update sw_20200406_U632_6.0.926_user and I am encountering some bugs. Systematically when I resume reading, the reader puts me back 3 pages. has the ignition it goes in horizontal mode and I have to do it 3 or 4 times so that it comes back in vertical mode. It’s a little difficult.
Thank you for help.

Replacement display for PB626(2)

Hi friends,

I crashed the display of my PocketBook Lux 3 (PB626(2)-y-ww).
Because it is already the second reader I lost this way, I would not like to buy a 3th one.
So I decided to try to repair the display.

Unfortunately I can't find a shop where I can get the right one.
The display in my crashed reader has the ID ED060XD4 (LF) U2-00.
The PocketBook has the item-no. PB626(2)-y-ww.
The display has a touch screen and is illuminated.

Does anyone knows where I could buy this type of display or if there is a comperable displace for exchange?

On Ali I found some displays, but non of them seems to be the very exact one.

Please help

Considering HD3, moving from Kindle... should I?

I currently have a Kindle PW1, and have been using a Kindle since shortly after the K3 (keyboard) was released.

I've been wanting an eBook reader with with adjustable color temp for a while, but the Oasis is overpriced and too big (I want the pocketable 6" size). I recently discovered the beautiful copper colored Pocketbook HD3 and it seems to check off all of my requirements, but I wonder if I'm overlooking something.

I'm in the US, so I would have to have it shipped, but with Tradeinn, it looks possible to get it for about half the price of an Oasis in about 3 weeks.

I have Amazon Prime, so I would be losing the Prime Lending library, but 1) I almost never use it, and 2) there are ways to deal with that (including just keeping my Kindle PW or reclaiming my K3 from my son who never uses it)

I do not use device to device progress syncing (I just read something different on each device), I do not often buy books from Amazon (I convert them myself, and even if I do in the future, there are ways around that too), I seldom turn on the wifi (though Dropbox sync looks interesting), I do not use goodreads. Basically, I don't take much advantage of the Amazon ecosystem. I also don't care too much about margin, line spacing, font spacing, etc... as long as there's a good enough default font and settings, I'm happy -- that said, I don't want really bad typesetting either.

It looks like the reviews for the PBHD3 are almost universally positive, but a few things caught my attention.
  1. I saw something saying that you MUST use ADE to side-load books. Is that true, or can I just copy them into a folder like on the Kindle? (my current workflow is to use kindle creator or ebook-convert at the terminal, and then copy the book in)
  2. I saw something about the device going into a FULL sleep after a few hours, and taking a lot longer to turn on. Is that true?
  3. How good is the periodical support? I do read a journal every month that I download in epub format and convert to Kindle format, and it uses the periodical format.
  4. I seldom use this, but how does the PDF support compare?
  5. It seems like maybe the HD3 doesn't have a metal back plate behind the screen, making it more fragile. True?
  6. I can't seem to confirm, but it looks like the HD3 uses a glass substrate rather than plastic (a big PRO in my mind, I can see the difference on the Kindle). Is that true?
  7. I saw one description that seemed to indicate that it uses IR for the touch interface. True? Again, big PRO in my mind, the fewer layers between me and the eink, the better.
  8. Does it have a hall effect (magnet) sensor to turn on/off when the cover is opened closed?

So, is it worth getting one of these shipped from overseas?

Thanks!

InkPad X + koreader tweaks

$

Hello,

I've bought a month ago an InkPad X, and tried to use koreader (already used koreader on a kobo aura h2o 2nd ed 7" with great success and speed, so have an easy comparison).

I stick to koreader vs PB software for these 3 things:
- file browser much quicker (only filename)
- configurable contrast(boldness) feature really makes reading easier, when pdf is shrinked
- rich gestures, avoiding screen refresh

In a nutshell, I've resolved 2 problems:
(1) in page view + fit to content, after switching from another document, seen sometimes every page from a different document. This was always resolved by either emptying cache, or setting DGLOBAL_CACHE_SIZE_MINIMUM/MAX... to 0 in advanced setting (used it for a longer time)
I experienced this also with v2020.03.2 too.
(2) the dreaded suspend issue, experienced almost every file open (using koreader's file browser), partially fixed by applying [WIP] Pocketbook-suspend plugin #3540 (it was easy, no code conflict)

I've managed to rebuild a custom koreader for pocketbook, but replacing the 5.17 SDK by 5.19 (modifying koxtoolchain/gen-tc.sh + had to insert a #include <stdbool.h> row in inkview.h).
I'm using the docker image recommended by the wiki, on top of git master (few commits away from v2020.04.1).
It was also necessary to execute "./gen-tc.sh pocketbook" before "./kodev release pocketbook" as wiki simply says (for kobo, had no problem).
With these build tweaks, I've successfully resolved (1) - exactly after switching to the new SDK ! (I did try with 5.17, too - where the cache error still present)
Note than some headers not present in 5.19 (bookstate.h), can be freely removed.

My InkPad X's details:
- Software version: U1040.5.20.1476
- Release date: 20191011_163330

For addressing (2), I've just pulled #3540 (plugin appears under a name "PocketBookInsomnia"). To me it's clear what it does in highlevel, though never programmed any .lua before, and unaware of any pocketbook internals... I've tweaked it further to call avoiding suspend, taking example code from other plugins (using UIManager:scheduleIn)).
The outcome is, it still hangs (with bottom led off) when a pdf is heavy to load (seems not even scheduling an event helps), and lasts longer than 2 secods, but the fast pdf starts no more hanging, and these type of hangs (led is off) can easily get over by touching the screen.
Page turns also got more reactive.
Only drawback is, the power consumption seemingly got higher.
For some rare documents however, I really see forever hangs, however I open those pdfs with PB soft.

All in all, I've got to a state where my InkPad X is very well useable with koreader!
It would be nice to:
- provide separate PocketBuild build with the new SDK (5.19 at least)
- include #3540 even in it's unfinished state, so see the problem much rare (with heavier PDFs), perhaps tweaking further scheduling an awake every second
After 1 week heavy use of many type of PDFs, I highly confirm #3540 is much better to include, than not having it.

Note: I've tried fedorchenko's free apps, however they either don't start, or app works weird (screen shifted, etc...) pushing me in a doubt that todays PB device would work with an old SDK.

Vivlio Inkpad 3 : no apps (dropbox/games..)

$

Hello,

I recently acquired a vivlio Inkpad 3. Model is PB740.
Software version is V740.5.19.1121, no update is apparently available.

First things first:
I read on this forum that firmware/software is different between Pocketbook and Vivlio.

If i upgrade it to pocketbook firmware (some did), I will apparently lose the integrated shop. (and probably support from vivlio)
So I'm not interested of doing so for now.

As I wanted to read epub, I added Pbimageviewer on it and working great.

That's for the little story.

Now I found that there is no Dropbox or apps / games like Sudoku.
There is apparently only the basics:
Library / Audiobooks / Web-browser / News / Dictionary / Gallery / Calendar / Music

I suppose Vivlio is selling inkpad without apps like games or dropbox.

Can I install them using .app files like I did with Pbimageviewer ?
I found Sukodu there: https://www.pocketbook-int.com/parts-of-software/
But it's not compiled. (and I can't do it myself)

As for Dropbox or other party software, where can I found them ?

Thanks for the infos :)

PocketBooks now sold at Newegg

For U.S. buyers...

Three PocketBook models, the HD 3 (copper and grey), InkPad Pro 3 and the new InkPad X are now being sold via Newegg, for shipping from the United States. They show "Sold by PocketBook" and "Shipped by Newegg."

I don't know if the lesser models will be sold through Newegg in the future or not (probably not). They also sell PocketBook brand cases for these models.

At any rate, when I get rid of some of my excess readers, I plan to buy an HD 3, so this is good news for me.

Inkpad X

I'm considering the Inkpad X, since my beloved Kindle DX is slowly dying...

Can I ask a few questions?

1) are you satisfied with the device?
2) is a cover/sleeve included? I cannot understand it from the amazon link https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B07...PNWYJU7H&psc=1
3) there is the possibility to have subfolders? I'm used to store my books in different folders, named by the author
4) is Calibre working OK with it?

thanks!

Missing covers

I am new to using an e-reader. Just bought a Incpad 3. I have noticed that when I import books from Calibre all of the books in mobi format are missing their covers. Also a couple of books in pdf format got this problem but none of the epubs. Anybody else encountered this problem? Any solutions I can try? I been looking for a way to download the cover in Incpad but it doesn’t seem possible or am I mistaken?

Question about LEDs on Touch Lux 3

$

I'm the fortunate owner of a PB615 (Russian model without WiFi) and was surprised to note that it has 8 LEDs at the top. I liked the PB615 so much, that I decided I wanted to find a PocketBook that would support WiFi and Touch Screen (so I could download books directly to it). I found a Touch Lux 3 at a good price on eBay last night and, while waiting for it to arrive, I was wondering if its lighting was the same as the PB615. It apparently is not. As far as I tell by scouring the videos and reviews, it has 5 LEDs on the bottom.

Can anyone confirm this? (Not that it really matters. The Kindle Voyage has, I believe, 5 LEDs and its screen is very evenly lit.) I'm also curious about other PocketBook LED configurations. The only other eReaders that I know of that have LEDs on top are the Nooks. At any rate, if anyone would check their PocketBook models and LED configurations and pass on that information it would be great. This is something reviewers only occasionally mention.

deleting books ...

OK I made the purchase and my new InkPad X just arrived...
It's a wonder how thin and lightweight it seems compared to my old Kindle DX - I just hope it's not too fragile.

A question: I read in a couple of threads that there's a danger of bricking the device when deleting pre-loaded books.
But those threads are both rather old, so I dont know if the problem is still present.
I also read that the problem may be avoided when deleting the books by calibre...

any info appreciated!

Change default folder for screenshot

Hi,

I am using an Inkpad X (that, if I understand well, has almost the same software that the Inkpad 3) and I would like to change the default folder of the screenshot to a folder in "Dropbox Pocketbook" in order to direclty synchronise the screenshot with my dropbox account.

I tried to use "ln -s" to replace the screen folder to a symbolic link in order to accomplish my goal, but it seems that I doesn't have the authorisation for that (even in root in my manjaro linux).

Any advice? Thanks for your reading!

PB740 and English-Greek dictionary

I recently bought a PB740 reader.

I cant figure out why it can;t use an English-Greek dictionary. It always says "Translation not found". This is the dictionary:

The dictionary seems to work with the dictionary application.

Pocketbook Touch HD PB631 - PDF Reflow bug with fw 5.20

$

Dear all,

I am looking for a geek advice to fix an annoying bug in FW 5.20 for PB631 with the PDF reflow function in landscape mode: whereas everything works perfect in portrait mode, in landscape mode the whole text is switched to the right. I leaves a huge blank margin on the left and the text goes
invisible out of the screen on the right.

The bug appears for all PDFs, only in landscape mode, and wasn't present in previous versions of the firmware. It has been acknowledged by Pocketbook support, but it looks like it won't be assessed as they sent me back to FW 5.19. But I rely heavily on the new Notes app, and I don't want to go back to FW 5.19 for this reason.

So my question: do anybody know where to look in system files to fix or patch this bug? Anything in CSS, or any cfg file, or whatever... to have the block of text centered back and entirely visible ?

Thanks you for your help.

Opinion for a Pocketbook

$

I mean to try a pocketbook but I use a lot the popup dictionary while reading, so I was thinking: is it like the kobo? And: is the font size and line spacing of the pop up window of the dictionary, customizable (at least with a patch like the kobo).

A second worry was: does the pocketbook handle well big PDF (for example 50 MB)?
And then: which is the responsiver/faster model? (The basic 3 seems quick but has the popup dictionary like the kobo?)

many thanks

About the way to push websites to Pocketbook

$

I have a new Touch HD 3, (Fb632), (also called "HD plus" in France I think).

I try to get familiar with it, and have a couple of questions about it.
Especially the topic "how to push websites to the Pocketbook"

Goal:
To have a good readibility, better than on my computer, and to read the sites offline, so hyperlinks that drive to other pages of the sites should be preserved.

1/ Where are the (browser) bookmarks located in the memory?
I'd like to access them to convert them into PDF (or epub) from my reader, using an online generator, but I don't see where they are.
Even when I connect the reader with my computer, I don't know where they are located.

When I use the built-in bookmarking feature, from the reader, the problem is that I can't rename a bookmark, or sort it. It will be really messy and difficult to find a bookmark again when I will have bunch of them (and no existing search feature :( )

The only workaround I've found is to download (not bookmark) the page, from the reader, with the button having a down arrow icon. It downloads in .mhtml format, and show it as a new book in the library app. From it, I can sort those .mthml "books" into folders and rename them.

I also though of making a book with Sigil or Calibre with all my links as hypertext, and sorted in chapters, and push it to the Pocketbook.

2/ Is there a way to send websites I browse from my computer to the reader?
3/ Is there a way to send websites I browse from my reader for offline reading (no wifi)?
= To sum up, how to "push" websites to the reader? I know the way with other brands, there are addons, but I don't see addons to push to Pocketbook.

I've found online generators to convert sites into pdf,

For instance this one: https://www.web2pdfconvert.com
or this one https://pdfcrowd.com/

Problem: They doesn't follow hyperlinks. :(

I have some additional questions about third party connections, because it could provide a way to "push" to Pocketbook:

4/ Can I connect more than one Dropbox account (= switching accounts)?
5/ Can I connect, in any way (with third party apps like IFTTT for instance) Google Drive and Pocketbook?
5/ Do you use IFTTT with Pocketbook? (I could open a new thread if some people do)

Language configuration-DA-Danish

Hello, this is my first post, so please tell me if i make a mistake.

I have made a basic Danish language configuration file, and a .dic dictionary file, for the pocketbook (linked with the post.)

the dictionary file was taken from freelang, made with the freelang2text tool and linguae.

put the .dic file in /system/dictionaries to use.

Please don't expect much from this whole configuration, it is only made to serve one person, and just thought maybe I could make it more simple for the others on this platform.

tldr; Use it at your own risk.

Basic 4 – end of older style PocketBooks

Looks like the Basic 3 is being replaced with the Basic 4 (which looks like the Lux Basic 2). If GoodERead has the correct information, the new Basic 4 will use a 212 ppi screen and will be very light – only 145 grams. One thing I don't like is that it will only have an 800 mAh battery instead of the 1300 mAh one in the Basic 3. I actually kind of like the old case, it was easy to hold.

GoodEReader is the only source I have for this but it looks legitimate...
