FBreader - fonts boldness

$

Hello,

I have a question about fbreader on my touch hd2 with the latest firmware. Is there any way to control boldness of the font (like kindle)? I know that coolreader can do this but I'm using online library legimi which forces to use default fbreader. If not, then how to change type of the font? I have o lot fonts (fonts.google.com) that have different width, for example regular->normal->semi-bold->bold. If I don't want to use italic fonts how to cheat reader that semi-bold font is italic? Or semi-bold is bold? It seems that "fonts" folder detects only regular, italic and bold fonts without any exceptions. Is there any solution to solve this problem, because for me regular fonts are too thin and bold are too thick?

Inkpad 3: Problems with Fonts

Hello everybody,

I have an Inkpad 3 with latest firmware and would like to use some fonts of my own. Basically, I want to continue using the fonts from my Inkpad 1 with my Inkpad 3.

So, I just copied the fonts from my old devices "font"-directory into the new devices directory. But I cannot use the fonts: Every time I call the font menu in the standard reader application, the reader application crashes and I find myself on the devices homescreen.
As soon as I clear all files from the Inkpad 3 font directory, everything works fine. But I don't like Pocketbooks preinstalled fonts.

Just for clarity: Those fonts are public domain and they work fine with inkpad 1; so I don't think the problem is a faulty or restricted font file.

Anyone else with this problem?

IP3: Power consumption / Sleep cover

I've had my Pocketbook InkPad 3 for a couple of weeks now. I quite like the device and I'm overall happy with the purchase. I have a couple observations/questions, though:

I noticed that when sleeping, the device seems to drain the battery faster than my several years old Kobo Glo (non-HD) does when not sleeping. In fact, I never turn off the Glo and sleep mode is disabled. It lasts for weeks this way. The InkPad 3 loses several percents of battery per day in sleep mode. Peculiarly, the other day it dropped to 20% within a day while sleeping (sleep cover), but I haven't been able to reproduce this, it only happened once. The frontlight and wifi are off on both readers.

To work around the battery draining when in sleep mode, I set the InkPad to turn off after 20 minutes of inactivity. When the sleep cover is closed, the device will still turn off after 20 minutes (this is good). I had hoped that when the sleep cover is opened, the device will automatically turn on. That, unfortunately, isn't the case (I don't know if this is actually feasible). The on/off button is located at the base of the device and it isn't all that easy to press.

It's not a huge deal, but it clashes a bit with how I have been using my other e-ink readers: like books. No booting, just pick them up and read. This doesn't work with the IP3 due to the battery draining faster than is the case with other readers I have used. I have only had 6" readers, though, and it is more powerful. Still, it also has a brand-new 1900 mAh battery vs. the Glo's several years old 1200 mAh battery.

Is Kobo's software better at managing energy or is this just related to the hardware specs and screen size? Is there something I can do to improve the situation? Would using a different reading software help?

On a side note, I had a couple instances where the IP3 would not recognize that it was connected to the computer (had to reboot the device before it worked again) and the clock lags behind. This is with the February 2018 firmware (the currently latest, I believe.

Ordering Pocketbook Devices in the US

Hello,

I am new to the world of EReaders/Ebooks and this site. I am very interested in the Pocketbook devices due to their open nature. I am interested in either the Touch HD 2 or the InkPad 3 (torn on the size).

However, I haven't been able to find any US-based sellers of Pocketbook devices. The only site that I have found so far that sells them is the company's German website. Has anyone in the US purchased devices from this website? (https://www.pocketbook-readers.de/), or know of any alternative sources?

Thanks!

Hi.
I have a pocketbook touch hd. I tried to use it about after a week or two and the screen turned into this, when I turned it on. It is frozen and it doesn't respond for touches. Before I turned it on it showed the normal off screen. Is it possible that it's just a software bug or is it broken?

Hello,

I'm searching for an Japanese Dictionary for my Inkpad 3 Reader.

Is there some Japanese Dictionary you can use with Pocketbook Readers? Best would be a normal Japanese Dictionary in Japanese, but something like Japanese -> English (Or Better Japanese - German) would be great too.

Is there a way to change .xml in an Pocketbook Usable Format (.dic or .pbi?)

Here some great Dictionary, but i Don't know how to make it usable: https://www.wadoku.de/wiki/display/W...oads+und+Links

Inkpad1 random garbled screen

I have a pocketbook 840/Inkpad 1 for almost 2 years (so almost out of warranty).
Since a few weeks the screen sometimes is completely garbled or almost blank when I turn a page or when the device turns itself off (showing the book title page).

I can see the screen responds to the buttons and the screen. After a few or sometimes tens of 'page turns' the screen suddenly is OK again and ever as crisp as it should be. It also 'fixes itself' if I turn pages with the touch screen, hardly touching the screen. Pressing the screen or device body will not invoke a garbled screen (or fix it for that matter).
It can take days or minutes before the problem turns up again.

The first two images show the problem, the third is when the screen is suddenly OK again. I stayed OK until it turned itself off again.

I set full page refresh to every page, but that has no effect it seems.

Has anybody seen this problem before? :chinscratch:

Cool Reader - Japanese (Vertcial Text + RtL)

$

Hello,

I just installed Cool Reader on my Inkpad 3 cause the original Reader doesn't Support Japanese Rtl (Right to Left) Reading.

But with the Cool Reader it seems, that Japanese is fully brocken now. It shows me ?? instead of Japanese Kanji, and Vertical Reading and rtl doesn't seems to work as well.

Are there some Settings you need to do to use CR with Japanese? Or isn't it supported with CR?

Just one more Question regarding the Pocket Book Readers: Is there a way to change the System Font? Not the Font used while reading books, the Font that is used by the System itself.

If you use Japanese Folders or Filenames some Kanji are showed perfectly fine and some are shown as squares. Though this could be caused by the Font the System uses.

PocketBook InkPad 3 - Export Highlights?

Dear Experts

I am considering to purchase a PocketBook InkPad 3.

Now my big question is, whether there will be a decent way of exporting highlights. Untill now I am using the Sony PRS-T2 and I do totally love the plugin annotation exporter of Toxaris, which is a great peace of work.

Can anybody tell me, if the toxaris plugin will work on the Pocketbook InkPad 3? Or will there be the mentioned problems with the changed database structure? (Compare to the thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...ght=prs&page=3)

Or are there any other reliable ways of doing that exports like some calibre plugin?

Touch hd 2 opinions

Hello,

I've had a kobo h2o original since it launched. I'm generally happy with it, but it's a bit heavy and getting on a bit, so I'd love to buy a new e reader.

I've been reading about the PocketBook Touch HD2 this morning and it really seems like it might be what be what I'm looking for.

I tend to read wearing gloves, so an IR screen is the way to go for me. It has an SD card slot, which Kobo seem to have lost, which would be lovely.

I'm looking for opinions from anyone who owns one, please.

My library is mainly in Calibre in epub format. How well does Calibre integrate with PocketBook?

Does anyone have any experience importing one to the UK?

And any thoughts on covers?

Thank you!

Switching between KOReader and Inkpad 3 soft

Hello there and sorry to bother you with that,

I've replaced my defective (but fortunately still under warranty) Kobo Aura One by a Pocketbook Inkpad 3/740 received Monday and I managed to install KOReader without any hassle.

To benefit from such nice features as Text-to-speech and MP3 listening availlable with the original Pocketbook provided software, I would like to be able to switch between KOReader and the generic reader software: any idea or practical hint please ?

Thank you for your so appreciated help as ever and happy reading (and programming of course),
Germain

Reading scanned PDFs on Inkpad 3

I am in academia and I often have to read old documents that do not exist in digital format, and thus I have to digitize them myself using our copying machine (gives you PDFs with jbig2 + invisible text on top).

I have noticed that PocketBook's default e-reader (on Inkpad 3) is extremely finicky with jbig2 images (the best format for scanned text), and often fails on larger images, even when Ko-reader can handle the file.

Moreover, PocketBook seems to have great problems identifying text in the scanned files, whether the file uses a superposed image/text format or it uses the more advanced Acrobat ClearScan format. Actually, which file works and which one not seems to a completely random variable.

I wanted to know if anyone here has had success with a specific workflow for producing scanned PDFs appropriate for reading and annotation on PocketBook devices. For instance, whether a specific format, or a specific version of a software are more likely to produce compatible files.

PB Basic 2 doesn't work after change its internal micro sd?

Internal memory of my lovely ebook reader is corrupted and turn into read only. After a little halfbaked research here and there I saw there is an micro sd card its inside. I change it with another one but it doesn't even open now. I figured out its original sd got lots of partition, couldn't foresee it may be that complicated :smack:, thought it'll be okay if I upload the firmware to new micro sd.

What's more, the device didn't recognized by PC, and I had to install a firmware bu no help.

Any advice, or answer is welcome. :thanks:

Pocketbook basic 2 - remove internal SD card?

Hello! Noob here, I have a spare PocketBook Basic 2 to play with and I was wondering whether it's possible to remove the internal SD card, and how to do that. So far I've opened up the device case, but I'm worried I'll damage something if I try fiddling around.

Apologies if this has been asked before, I had a quick look through the forums and didn't find anything.

Touch Lux 3/PB 626 froze

My TL3 suddenly froze after being shut down earlier today.
It doesn't boot up when I short press the power button. It doesn't do anything if I press the power button longer (up to 120 seconds).

If I connect it to my laptop, the Windows 10 detects it as unknown device (under other devices in device manager). If after I connect it to the laptop I press the power button for several seconds, the laptop makes a noise just like when a USB is disconnected. If I press the power button again for a few seconds, the laptop makes a sound like when you connect a USB drive.

If I connect it to power nothing happens.

Something similar happened several months ago and as it had a valid warranty, I send it in for repair but the people there gave it back several days after that saying that it works just fine and it really did. They didn't reinstall the firmware - all my books were there, even the one I was reading when it froze in the first place. It worked just fine until today.
I may have exposed it to light shocks as I was travelling by car today but it was protected by a case and I don't think the shocks were bad enough to brick it like this.

So. I was wondering if there is a secret way of hard-reseting it. I am thinking that I may do something to boot it up again until I will send it in again (several days from now) for repair because I still have a valid warranty.
Thank you for any help. :)
